Next time you plan a shower, why not do something out of the ordinary? Shower the newborn with a library of books. It takes a long time to outgrow a good book. We’ll help you make the shower a success with our suggestions for a child’s library, party favors for guests, and we gift wrap your selections. We will personalize the selections based on the parents’ interests and preferences.
1. Have a picnic on the family room floor when it’s cold outside. Children love to see the picnic blanket spread on the floor with books and snacks. Choose a theme such as How do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? by Jane Yolen.
2. Build on their enjoyment of dressing up and pull out the “princess wear” for books like Fancy Nancy by Jane O’Connor or the super hero gear for Super Hero ABC by Bob McLeod. NEW! Fancy Nancy: Bonjour Butterfly coming in February along with a couple of “I Can Read” Fancy Nancys.
3. Make bedtime special with a habit of a good book before settling in. Jake Stays Awake by Michael Wright and Stay Awake, Sally by Moderassi. Titles are similar and both are hilarious solutions to bedtime problems. Jake can’t sleep so crawls in with his parents who then are also wide awake so they hunt for other sleeping places. Eventually, they end up right where they belong. Sally’s problem is her parents want to keep her up beyond her bedtime.
4. When will we be there? How long until my birthday? and many, many questions regarding time are answered in this book, A Second is a Hiccup by Hazel Hutchins. After reading this book, get out a timer and see how long it takes to do some of your favorite things.
