"A serious bookstore that likes to have fun, with selections for the whole family" according to Four Seasons, Monday, July 27, 2009:

Redbery Books, an independent bookstore that advertises "selections for the whole family," eclipses many other bookstores in the diverse features, programs, inventory and special events it proffers.
It is a compliment to this part of the northwestern Wisconsin that owner Bev Bauer decided to set up shop in this "neck of the woods." Bauer - herself a former librarian and media services coordinator in the Roseville, Minn. schools - came to the Cable area 27 years ago with her husband Bill.  ... she spends most of her days right here, operating and constantly tweaking her bookstore. She finds that Cable has become a destination, particularly for the changing demographics which reflect a greater number of retirees and Baby Boomers.
Bauer has an abiding love of books - no surprise for someone who spent a summer in South Africa in a volunteer program setting up libraries in small villages.
"Literacy and connecting people to books has always been a passion of mine," she said.
Five years ago she created a business plan for a bookstore and called it "redbery." She wanted a name that evoked nature and whimsy - hence "berry" for nature and one less "r" for a dash of the whimsical.
And "red?" You guessed it. It's pronounced as "read" as in "I read (past tense) a book."
Bauer said she wanted "a serious bookstore that likes to have fun."
...Redbery Books moved in May of this year to the Ideal Market building in downtown Cable. She wanted to be on the main floor on a main street.
"A bookstore more centrally located would be more community-oriented," said Bauer.

One walks through the front door and off to the immediate left is a coffee and food bar with small tables and a small gourmet grocery section. Just across the aisle is the "food for thought" section: hand-selected books for all audiences at all ages. There are specialty children's books, women's and men's books taht cut across all genres of reading, books to please and delight grandparents, and books to be appreciated by all. A special grandreads program offers grandparents the opportunity to sign up and purchase a book every month for thier grandchildren. The book is wrapped with a gift card enclosure from the grandparent(s) and mailed out by the store.
[Each fall] at the Telemark Resort/Convention Center in Cable, Redbery Books ... co-sponsors the Northwoods Children's Book Conference. The conference is designed specifically for librarians, media specialists, educators and writers. ...
Bauer's involvement in these kinds of events is routine. At her store, she hosts author events, special events, a variety of book clubs and story times.
...
Bauer contributes much of her success to her knowledgeable staff who unfailingly find the "next book" for the customers. ... The incomparable book selection which Bauer herself determines after checking with customers, reading the New York Times and Publisher's Weekly and going to the trade show in New York City every year, is based on "what's getting the buzz," Bauer said. Few book reps travel up here to sell, so she relies upon her own knowledge and taste, along with that of her staff and wide range of customers, to build her offering.
Gift ideas abound. There are fashionable reading glasses, journals, pens, games and puzzles, greeting cards and book-related accessories to choose from. There are even toys, but they must have what Bauer calls "play value," meaning they don't rely on batteries for operation.
Bauer said the best part of her operation is "getting to know my customers as friends - and feeling more a part of the community has been great."
