Redbery Books is pleased to host James Brakken as he launches his new northern Wisconsin novel, The Treasure of Namakagon, with readings by the author and illustrator. "Lumber camp" snacks will be served including coffee and special "cook shanty" fare provided by the Brick House Cafe and Catering.
"We will have a prize for the best-dressed lumberjack or jill," says Brakken, "and anyone who attends wearing lumberjack plaid will receive a map showing sixteen 'walking tour' historic sites near Cable and Hayward that relate to the book and the 19th century timber harvest. The interpretative map is perfect for a day-long self-guided lumberjack era tour. Additionally, book buyers will be invited to join James on a brief three mile excursion following this event to the site of an abandoned lumber camp, walk down a former ice road, and see the rollways that allowed the huge white pine logs to be rolled from the sleighs into the river. It's a great opportunity to step where lumberjacks stepped thirteen decades ago."
